Ms.
Lehman obtained her RN and Associate Degree in Nursing from Kingsboro
Community College, Brooklyn, New York. She received Certification
in Critical Care in 1991 and is BSLS/ACLS Certified.
She joined Maimonides as a staff nurse in
the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit in 1982 and assumed a position as
Cardiac Nurse Clinician in 1994. Her responsibilities include meeting
and interfacing with all patients prior to their surgery to discuss
details of pre, interop, and postoperative care. Important contact
and liaison with family members occurs regularly regarding patient
status and discharge planning issues. Ms. Lehman and other nurse
clinicians participate in long-term postoperative care and evaluation of
cardiac surgical patients.
As a clinical researcher Ms. Lehman
coordinates and directs a number of important cardiac research studies
and drug trials. These clinical studies engage a wide number of
topics including antibiotic efficacy for Staphylococcal infections,
evaluation of Cox-2A inhibitors for postoperative pain management,
efficacy of monoclonal antibodies, efficacy of a new monoclonal antibody
in amelioration of post cardiopulmonary bypass inflammatory syndrome
(SIDS) and efficacy of biologic sealants for hemostsis in aortic
surgery.
Initially, Susan is the Project
Coordinator for the ongoing Cardiothoracic Program in Robotic Surgery
and oversees the divisional participation in a nationwide clinical trial
to evaluate TECAB (totally endoscopic coronary artery bypass/Robotics).
